Article 50 obligations at a glance
These are the transparency obligations that affect most public-facing digital products and content teams.
Chatbot & interaction disclosure
Users must be informed they are interacting with an AI system unless it is obvious from the context.
Machine-readable marking of generated media
Providers of AI systems that generate or manipulate image, audio or video content must enable marking in a machine-readable format.
Deepfake disclosure
Deployers must disclose that content constituting a deepfake is generated or manipulated by AI.
Public AI-generated text disclosure
AI-generated text published publicly must be disclosed, unless the content undergoes human review or editorial control.
Penalty exposure: up to €15M or 3% of global annual turnover
Article 99 of the EU AI Act sets administrative fines for infringements of transparency obligations. The higher of €15 million or 3% of total worldwide annual turnover applies.
